About Denny

Denny Rehberg, a fifth generation Montanan, is no stranger to the unique needs of rural Montana. Having spent the majority of his life as a cattle and goat rancher, Denny has hands on experience with many of the challenges facing agriculture producers and small businesses across the Big Sky State.

Denny got his start in public service in 1977 when, after attending Billings West High School, Montana State University, and Washington State University, he served as an intern in the Montana State Senate, and later worked as a legislative assistant for Congressman Ron Marlenee.

However, this was only the beginning of what has amounted to more than 30 years of experience in the public service arena. Denny ran and was elected to the Montana House of Representatives in 1984, where he served three terms. During his tenure, Denny successfully fought for a position as the only freshman member on the House Appropriations Committee, helped balance the state budget without a tax increase, and represented his district as a strong fiscal conservative.

In July 1991, Denny was appointed Lieutenant Governor by Governor Stan Stephens. When Stephens decided not to run for reelection, Denny joined the ticket of then Attorney General Marc Racicot in their successful bid for Governor/Lt. Governor.
Denny was elected to Montana's lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2000. After only two terms, he secured a position on the powerful House Committee on Appropriations where he currently serves as a member of the Energy and Water and Labor Health and Human Services Subcommittees.

A family man, Denny has been married to his high school sweetheart, Jan, for more than 30 years. Denny and Jan have three children, A.J., Katie, and Elsie.
